Back from a wonderful week on Mission Bay in San Diego with family and friends, and almost no news contact. But now it’s back to work.

We live in a seriously Kafkaesque world where reasonable and rational expectations are dashed by dissonant realities. A few cases in point.

The city of Santa Ana, CA has refused local urging to designate itself a “sanctuary city” and instead intends to continue to enforce laws against illegal immigration. Consequently, our “activists” have established a “hotline” ostensibly to help folks deal with the aftermath of a raid (the sad and broken families that result, unless of course the whole bunch returned to their country of origin) but, in reality, to provide as much of a heads up as possible to the objects of the immigration raid. That used to be considered aiding and abetting in the commission of a crime but now is seen by many on the left as “compassion.”

Point number two. I was watching and rooting for the Angels to beat the BoSox yesterday (anything that benefits my beloved NYY) on the local Fox Sports Network and, between innings, was treated to the latest State Farm commercial touting its auto insurance programs. It featured a series of vignettes with happy policyholders telling the camera how much they had saved on their premiums by switching to State Farm.

The thing was, every one of the six or so folks providing a testimonial spoke in very appropriate English…but with a Spanish accent! And then to top it off, the final voice over was by a male voice also speaking English with a Spanish accent.

Only in America.

Must be some poor Afghani family looking for a better life and willing to do a job an American just won’t do.

Sounds pretty silly, the notion that a convicted criminal ought not be punished because of the effect it might have on his mom, or wife or kids for that matter. Should of thought about that before your robbed the liquor store or sold those drugs.

Well, I made up the foregoing, but Human Rights Watch is advocating for criminal illegal aliens arguing that deportation ought be reconsidered because of it’s “impact” on the family of the criminal.

Sorry, but I can’t rustle up much sympathy for someone who broke the law to enter this country and then commits and is convicted of an aggravated felony while here. I guess I’m just heartless when I suggest that this conundrum can be solved by simply encouraging the entire freakin’ family go back with him.
