Back from a wonderful week on Mission Bay in San Diego with family and friends, and almost no news contact. But now it’s back to work.

We live in a seriously Kafkaesque world where reasonable and rational expectations are dashed by dissonant realities. A few cases in point.

The city of Santa Ana, CA has refused local urging to designate itself a “sanctuary city” and instead intends to continue to enforce laws against illegal immigration. Consequently, our “activists” have established a “hotline” ostensibly to help folks deal with the aftermath of a raid (the sad and broken families that result, unless of course the whole bunch returned to their country of origin) but, in reality, to provide as much of a heads up as possible to the objects of the immigration raid. That used to be considered aiding and abetting in the commission of a crime but now is seen by many on the left as “compassion.”

Point number two. I was watching and rooting for the Angels to beat the BoSox yesterday (anything that benefits my beloved NYY) on the local Fox Sports Network and, between innings, was treated to the latest State Farm commercial touting its auto insurance programs. It featured a series of vignettes with happy policyholders telling the camera how much they had saved on their premiums by switching to State Farm.

The thing was, every one of the six or so folks providing a testimonial spoke in very appropriate English…but with a Spanish accent! And then to top it off, the final voice over was by a male voice also speaking English with a Spanish accent.

Only in America.

I am not saying that we should be as psychologically and physically brutal to them as they are to us (although frankly I wouldn’t care if we were), but I would like to see even half the pious outrage over the enemy’s conduct as is devoted to ours.

Barack Obama is for “age appropriate” sex education for kindergartners.

The spin on this is that Obama was talking about teaching these children about how to recognize sexual predators, etc and that parents can opt their kids out from the instruction. Thank you, but I think it’s best to leave discussions with 5 and 6 year olds about what is “inappropriate touching” to their parents, and it’s a sad reflection on our times when there are things being taught in kindergarten classes that parents might rightfully want to exclude their children from.

Furthermore, isn’t it about time we stopped stealing away our kids’ innocence bit by bit and earlier and earlier?

No word on whether there is any concern over our kids seeing on screen countless acts of promiscuous, dangerous or premarital sex, teen pregnancy, over-the-top violence, repeated foul language or countless other acts of questionable morality.
